My rats had some babies last weekend. Im keeping the 1.5 group together. So far non of the babies have been eaten. I counted 8 last night which seems good for a first litter. Ive got another rat that is about to have babies and she is way bigger than the other one that gave birth so hopeing for a dozen.

I leave mine together, the male doesnt bother them at all. I'm new to this, only 4 litters but havent lost one to being eaten. I too was nervous with alot of people saying the male would eat them, but I havent experienced it

i have NEVER seen a male eat them. now i wouldnt put babies from one male in with a different male, just in case. but i have not had 1 of my males eat any babies. and thats in a colony of around 300 or so over the course of a year or so.

mice on the other hand, if you add any new mice to a tank with babies, just assume the babies will be eaten by any and all adult mice in the tank, they are terrible
