Re: If your were just getting into breeding...
on the list you listed to begin with
2 het albinos..... each egg has 25% chance of being albino cheap but not great odds when a couple hundred bucks would double your odds (and breeding visual to het all your offspring will at least be hets no possi hets...)
On the pastel and spider group, I started with this idea
bought 1.1 pastel and 0.2 spiders can make super pastels, bees, and second generation killer bees......
Depending on your budget you need todecide what you wanna work with....
Find genes that you like and start there depending on your budget you can do anything, we all had to start somewhere

Re: If your were just getting into breeding...
As someone who's also toying with the idea of breeding one or two morphs in a couple years, I love the idea of the 2 mojaves although I personally would go with 2 lesser plattys (just cause I'm fond of the soft buttery look of lessers).
In a perfect word, I'd love to try to have a lesser platty, a pied, and a bee for males and then have a lesser platty, pastel het pied, pinstripe, and a clown for the females. Whoot!!!
But I think I'll start with the 2 lessers and see how things go from there, lol.... :P

Re: If your were just getting into breeding...
Let's not forget about breeding 2 YB's to get ivory's

Brandon Osbourne, now thats a thought. I havent seen too many pastel het pieds though. Maybe its just because I havent really been looking. Either way if I went that route, I could just wait till I find a pastel het pied, and just get him when I see him.
jjmitchell, thats another good idea. I havent thought of getting more than just the pair. I guess its just because Id rather start with the two, if successful then start adding to the collection. But then again, if I only went with a pair then I realized I wanted to add more morphs, theres a good chance Id have to wait another year or two before I could breed the new morphs. So thats definitely a good idea to start off with more than a pair.
Evenstar, I also thought of lessers as well. I just like the look of Blue Eyed Lucys a little more haha
kane_abel, haha I didnt even think of Yellow Bellies. Im getting a lot of great ideas here.
Thanks everyone

I've seen lots of pastel het pied males for sale. Prices range from $400-1000 depending on the name of the breeder. Het Pied females I've seen for $200-350. I started with my own a few years ago and produced my first Pastel Pied last year. This year I produced 3 Pewter Pieds, LOTS of Pieds and het Pieds, as well as Super Pastels, Pewters, and Cinnies all pos. het Pied. IMHO, you can't go wrong with anything Pied. :D
Good luck with whatever path you take.

Re: If your were just getting into breeding...
I think mojaves are a great base morph and you can find them cheap. If you want to get into breeding sooner than later I would do some searching for some breeder size females, when bought in groups you can find them cheap. My buddy just picked up 4 1250-1900 gram normal females for $375 shipped and I sold him my extra mojave male just over 1000 grams for $200 as I just picked up a gold blush type proven mojave male @ 850+ grams for $200 shipped to my door. Yellow bellies are also another cheap great base morph to start with as you can find proven breeder males all day long for $125 shipped and if you browse around for a bit you can find breeder size yellow belly females for $500-700 and be on your way to producing ivories and from there you can breed an ivory male to say a pastel and you will have a clutch of all pastel YB's and YB's. Just a few options to ponder upon.

Oh really? Ill have to keep an eye out for them then. Wow that sounds like quite the turn out, and definitely makes me excited about all the possibilities haha. Thanks
Thanks Jeffwyatt81, Im really liking the idea of Mojaves or Yellow Bellies. I would love to produce a white snake. Thats a good idea, Ill just have to wait and sit back to see what I can find. Im really excited.

Its really what ever you like. I would suggest getting yourself a few normal breeder size females and a double co-dom male and try it out. That way you can get some experiance with breeding before you invest alot and try to make your money back and learn from your mistakes at the same time. Also what Deb said was a great suggestion to as you can produce some killer morphs from that pairing. But if your looking to get into it NOW you can get a few normals and a breeder bee for probably 1000.
Good luck and have a good first season!

So I think Ive made up my mind. Its either a pair of Yellow Bellies, or a pair of Mojaves. I have an opportunity to get a breeder size male of both morphs. And I found 2010 females of both morphs for good prices as well.
My questions are: Whatever morph I decide to go with, should I get the breeder sized male and the younger female, or should I just get both a 2010 male and female? And I cant decide between the morphs, I know that its a 25% chance to get BELs from the Mojaves, and a 25% chance to get Ivories from the YBs, which would you all choose?
Thanks
