In my opinion, males should not be kept together as they are usually very territorial. I have two females as pets and they wrestle and will even hump eachother. Mounting in rats, along with many other mammals, is a form of showing dominance.

But since you are trying to get some feeders, a 1.2 or 1.3 would be much better.

The "blood" that you have been seeing is actually called Porphyrin. It is a red, mucousy discharge from their eyes or nose that indicates that the rat is very stressed. I would suggest separating the males before one kills the other while fighting over females. If you don't want to get another female, you can make two groups of 1.1 and you should have babies soon.

Furthermore the Porphyrin can and often does go all the way to a serious upper respiratory issue causing death.

When I catch red noses they go one place, into a snakes mouth....

Multiple males really only work when you have a LARGE group of females together...think more than ten.

aye, i run anywhere from 7-10 females to one male and dont seem to have any problems with the males handling that many on their own lol

Thanks for all the responses, I seperated the males and did 1.2. However I found out today just 15 minutes ago what the problem was. The one female just had 2 babies. Not sure if there is more to come or what but I took all the other rats out.
