Luckily, I'm only brave enough to use it on my ball pythons! And the worse they'll do is nip my thumb.

Sire and dam. Adding the "e" changes it to the original word meaning of the lady of the family type definition, and changes the pronounciation as well.

I would not use the 'female dog' word, because it's not applicable to snakes. Like the other poster said, why not use "hen"? Reptiles are closer to birds than mammals after all! :)

I just use male and female, or stud and female, sometimes I go all out and say "proven female" or "virgin female".

To think I was just having a conversation with Dan about the meaning behind "proven breeder" vs "virgin female" in snakes. Because in snakes, "virgin" only means you haven't produced young, not that you haven't engaged in the deed. By that meaning.. a lot of folks are still "virgin breeders" because they have the mature ability to produce young, but haven't actually produced yet.

It was amusing in my head.

So I've been improperly calling my snakes, "shawty" and "dawg"

    Darn. :P

    You can say hell here.

The system can't tell "context" in which you are writing. The context in which is it censored for this forum is so no one can call someone else that name. Other than the dog forum, there's really no other place (other than this thread) that the word would be used in context anyway. Not sure what the big deal is?

We also don't consult the FCC when making decisions for our privately owned forum.

And to add some thoughts to Robin's response:

IF the word is used in its proper context, no one gets in trouble for using it. No one has been infracted over this thread. :P

But it's too much a derogatory part of our common language to ignore. The censor smilies act as a warning to a member that something they typed is not acceptable here and should be changed. If we took it off our list...we'd see a lot more "out of context" usage of the word, and then folks would whine because they didn't KNOW it wasn't appropriate for this site.
