What do you do when the electric goes out?

Well, here's my solution....

I live in central BC, Canada and it can get really cold where I live in the winter at times. I actually have 2 x 5000 watt generators if needed and I keep a 45 gal barrel of fuel full, and mounted off the ground and in my shed in the winter. They will heat my house well enough for a good while. As long as you add some methyl hydrate to the gas to keep water moisture out you will be ok. If you don't use it then run it in your car when it gets warmer in the spring before the gas can go bad.

The other thing you should always be on top of is being able to get fresh drinking water if the power goes out. I always keep at least 3-4 x 5 gallon pails of drinking water for consumption only in the house for winter. That can be even more important than heat. I can live with the plastic pail taste....but water is a necessity in my books.

You can also buy a iodine drinking water kit to treat running stream water for emergencies....

and don't eat yellow snow!

During the summer it's not a problem the snake room is about 85 anyway, during the winter I have a Buddy heather in the evetn the power goes out http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...&ci_sku=173690

If you still have gas and hot water, you can heat water, and fill water bottles. (Or milk jugs).

Ive got 2 coal stoves that heat my house. If the power fails, id end up taking my snakes downstairs near the stoves. On the other hand, my snake room is right above where one of the coal stoves are so there may be enough heat to rise that i dont have to. It should stay at least 75-80*. If you want to be real ghetto, put a bunch of hand warmers in the snakes cage. Lol.
