Apparently the major salmonella risk associated with snake comes from the feeder rodents?

Well, I doubt she'd volunteer to feed f/t rats to your snakes, but just in case, tell her not to!

The whole time I was prego I still handled and fed my two. Only thing that I changed was using some tongs to feed them, we were working on getting them switched to f/t. Hand washing and the hand sanatizer gels work well being around the baby. As of now she's 19 months and still hasn't been allowed to touch the snakes, though she calls the 7ft one Baby.

One time I posted pictures of me holding my pied while visibly pregnant on my surrogacy board. Hang on, I'll find the reply so you all can get a good laugh, too!!

Yuck! I will go ahead and break the ice...IF I were an IP I would NOT appreciate a snake being so close to MY baby. An animal is an animal and they are unpredictable....

It very well could be dangerous. Any type of snake could decide it feels threatened and wrap around something and start squeezing at any moment. If the snake decided to bite you and strikes your belly........it doesn't take a genius to think of these things. Go ahead and be careless with your own babies, but your IP's??? Not cool.
The scary part is that she was serious!

(note: 'IP' means Intended Parent- someone who has a surrogate carry their baby. I was pregnant with someone else's child at the time).

I have two kids and my son is only 11 months and we have never had any issues with him and the snakes. He has never actually met my snakes yet! I always wash my hands before and after handling my snakes so I don't pass anything to them and they don't pass on anything to me!

I would like to see that pic! That woman is a genius! A ball python will definately squeeze you to the point of killing the baby and possibly you!

I was still cleaning cages and handling snakes during both of my pregnancies. The only thing that changed was that I let my other half handle the cats' litter box while I was pregnant. ;) As long as you practice good hygiene, no worries with handling your reptiles.
