Re: How Do You Breed For Hets?
Oh also, read this. GREAT crash-course on genetics. :)

Honestly, the only reason I know anything about het versus homozygous and and all that jazz is because I have forgotten more than most people will ever even KNOW about horse colour genetics. ;) Ironically once you get the hang of recessive, co-dom aka incomplete dominant and dominant inheritance, it doesn't matter what species it is. :D Show me a horse, and I can tell you with some degree of certainty what colour it's parents were. Show me a pair of horses and I can tell you what you are most likely to produce. It translates well into Ball Python morph genetics, ironically enough. :D

I just had someone explaining to me about horse genetics as an example the other day, haha. I didn't even think about other animals and genetics. Again, thanks for all the help guys!

My husband is a blue-eyed blonde American. I'm dark-eyed, dark-haired Filipino. All my kids are dark-eyed, dark-haired Filipino. A blue-eyed blonde daughter would have been really cool, but nope, ain't happening. Here's hoping one of my sons marry a blue-eyed, blonde girl. Then maybe I can have a blue-eyed blonde granddaughter to spoil.
That's how I learned about genetics...
Of course, human genetics is a lot more complex than a ball python's.

Horse colour genetics? I got down pat. Ball Python morph genetics? No problem. Dog colour genetics? I'm...admittedly still shaky but getting there. Cat colour genetics? Less confident about that than dogs but not totally stupid either. ;)
PEOPLE genetics, for hair/eye colour et cetera? Yeah I got NO CLUE. :D Had someone try to explain it to me once...I swear my brain couldn't comprehend.
