Head is out but still no color?

Still just a camera phone - an iPhone even, one of the worst camera phones out there. So sorry if this is not good quality picture. But, trust me, there is no color on that kid... maybe a very very very light yellow kinda thing but mostly pink all over - including the head.

There's got to be something I'm doing wrong! Temps at 88.5 running steady, humidity at all time HI on the accurite. Lots of moisture buildup - as in - dripping down, but I got the lid tilted a very slight bit so it is not falling on the eggs themselves - which is a moot point because I've been flushing the eggs with saline except for the last 2 days when I stopped doing that because I'm out of saline.

I punctured 2 good-sized holes on the tupperware lid because I got Freedom out of his egg. By the way, my husband had to untangle Freedom last night because his yolk sack thing was wrapped around his body. :( But he is still doing good... still half-way out, not all the way out, probably because he still has a bit of the yolk sack still hanging off his belly.

I brought up bringing this whole tub of eggs to the vet last night with my husband but he thinks at this point, he doesn't think the vet would do anything other than what we're doing. I told him we weren't ready for this! He told me I'm a drama queen. So yeah, it's a stressful situation.

LOL. I'm sorry but this might be the funniest post that I have ever read on here. Congrats. Great looking bee. Now buy a camera so we can see some decent pics.


Also, I would peel back the shell on that one a little. It is hard to tell much of anything on your pic, but it almost looks like it's umbilical may be wrapped around him. Definitely worth taking a look so you don't lose him after going through all of this.

I've been looking at Deborah's bumblee hatchling picture and the one I have that is now half-way out the egg still looks like Deborah's "inside the egg" picture. And the black "stripes" even look like it didn't all come in.

But then a spider wouldn't have a pink head, right? Dangit. I hate to sound really stupid! I have to eat crow with my husband. I think I just officially became a drama queen. Please tell me I'm not the only one this happened to.

So did you know you paired the spider with a pastel or did you think the pastel was a normal??

My husband definitely paired a spider with a pastel. We only have 3 bp's - a spider, a pastel, and an albino. And only the spider is male.

So, yeah, I was hoping for a normal and a bee coz we don't have any of those. But man, the stuff I went through the past 10 days! I just want these guys to come out alive and hopefully without deformities. I already lost one egg (on day 68 at that!), I would hate to have something wrong happen to the others.

The bee's name is gonna be Jack (boy or girl). My husband picked the name out from a Yellow"jack"et - which is a wasp but has the same coloration.

DANGIT! You are right. I peeled back some of the eggshell and the yolk is going around his body too like the other one yesterday.

Okay, I know you're going to hate me for saying this, but it takes a LOT of courage for me to even touch the eggshell (I'm a recovering snake-phobic) so I have to wait for my husband to come home from work which is not until 4 hours from now... WILL THAT BE TOO LATE? Or should I just have him get out of work early???

Yeah that's definitely a bumblebee. Looks like a nice one too!

And that's just how hatchlings look when they come out of the egg. Their coloration is more washed out looking, but after they have their first shed you will notice their true colors. Good luck with the other ones awaiting to hatch!

And by the way, when you breed spider to pastel, you get 1/4 (or 25%) normals, 1/4 (or 25%) pastels, 1/4 (or 25%) spiders, and 1/4 (or 25%) bees. So that normal in there is definitely expected in the outcome:)
