    Depends really how far the metal is away from the actual bulp .. Every guard I get (from the shelf that is) is only just an inch away from the bulp .. if you double that it wouldn't be so hot anymore .. at least not 100+ ... as long as the metal isn't hotter than 92-93F it shouldn't be a problem I suppose ..

    A lot to think about I suppose :(

    Hi,

    I would probably use a sheet of glass sitting on thin supports all round that you can silicon in to make sure the snake can't pee on the heatmat - you can also drill a hole under the glass level for passing the electrical cord out.

    Or, and this may appeal more, you could move the levels of the dividers and add another for a three cage system instead of two. :)

    But I would definately email or phone Rich at reptile basics and tell him the dimensions of your enclosures and ask for his recommendations. If the RHP's would work as straight replacements that would be simplest and if they won't he will be able to tell you.

    You can of course make your own lamp gaurds in the meantine out of quarter inch mesh and pliers to se if that can be used as a stopgap while you plan things out.
