Thanks to both of you for the clear and concise answers. Asstated earlier your rack and room setup looks amazing. I think I may go that route for the majority and keep one (probably a full axanthic) in a terrium for display.

I do not currently have any BPs but I am a collector at heart (watches, knives, pens, etc) and I'm sure this will carry over soon to the ball pythons I am in the process of ordering.

Does the bowl of water provide sufficient humidity or do you need to mist them throughout the day?

Would you suggest heat tape or heat wires for unit heating?

Sorry for inundating you with all these questions, but I appreciate all responses.

LOL, at least you are not in denial. Soon you'll have your own room.

Flex watt hooked up to a thermostat is the most common and proven heat source for racks. The water bowl is usually enough for humidity, but it will depend on how dry the air is in your room. BP's will generally soak in thier water dish when they are gonna shed and spill some water, which raises the humidity though.

I cannot speak for the keepers who use tubs, but I can speak for those who make their own enclosures. I personally feel that snakes in tubs are BORED as hell. They don't get enough exercise nor do they have anything to do.

I make my own enclosures, 36x18x12 for my bps, and if they get over 5 feet they'll be getting larger. I can inspect them without yanking out a drawer, they provide lots of entertainment after lights out as they are always cruising, and I feel they are "happier" in this environment.

There will be those who believe these animals are stupid, instinct-driven creatures, but I don't believe it for an instant. After almost 40 years of keeping herps, and observing and interacting with them, I've learned to respect these animals and to give them OPTIONS.

Unless, of course, you just don't give a crap.
