Now, is this rat dead? It looks dead but you said it's laying low, which would suggest alive. If it is alive I'd nurse it back to health before feeding it off, or at least kill it, with those injuries.

While I dont really find it funny or enjoyable, I do think it's sad that your snake didnt eat it. Did the snake get injured?

 All animals deserves respect, feeding live is cruel for the prey and dangerous for the snake!!! And know there's a back button, but I am the voice of those who cannot be heard, and if it is something wrong i must say it out loud to stop cruelty, behave like a thinking human being!!! So go and.....think about respect!!

Feeding live is natural. Taking instinct away from a pet who just lives to hide, eat, poop, and breed is cruelty IMO. It's not like the OP knew the snake was gonna go nutso on the rat, thanks for posting the pics. I find it interesting and educational... not funny.

It's not cruel. Snakes will eat live in the wild, and I know that captive ball pythons aren't the only ones who will probably miss a few times, too. I'm sure the original poster did not mean any harm, and did not mean to hurt the rat. And I know of a few baby ball pythons who are horrible at their first few feedings, too. It's not cruelty.

I can't say the same. My ball python is afraid of live, and refuses everything except frozen/thawed, so even though I am "taking away" his instinct, he is feeding well, and not afraid of his food.

I think everyone has a right to feed what they want, and everyone has their own opinion for that. But to say that one way is wrong or cruel isn't true at all.

Though, I would be a bit afraid of that snake if I were you. :)

Well, they Prey of course thinks that it is cruel. Now, with those voices that cannot be heard, is that human voices or the rat voices?

Sorry, I just think its funny when people get worked up over nothing. I cant say I like what happened to the poor rat, What I see is a Nonhungry snake who was using Defence strikes, but that is not your average feeding.

Now tell me, when did you call the OP and ask if their snake will even take Prekilled or Frozen thawed, before you voiced all of this, because I am assuming that you did to be saying all of that.

If you do not like it, maybe snakes are not for you.

I like how people feel bad for animals they like. Rats, in our case snakes, cats, dogs, etc. And predators seem to get a bad rep.

But when something eats a bug, or when someone kills one, isnt that cruel as well? What about all those poor defenseless bacteria you kill when you use hand sanitizer? Think how many of the infectious, dangerous, well protected bacteria get their claws in when you free up all that space for them, but all those poor defenseless bacteria that were living on your sweat or eating dead skin and were protecting you from dangerous bacterial, no one seems to worry about them, they just die in the billions, their tiny screams echoing through eternity.

And what about the plants, they grow and produce means of spreading themselves, but we cut them down in the millions and turn them into cow food or use their oil to fry our twinkies. Does no one think of the plants? How many plants must die every day to feed this country alone? And while many of these plants lack mammal-esque characteristics, think of the potatoes and their eyes, they have to see you cutting into them to make your french fries, or the treas and their long elegant arms, you cut their torsos to send them to a saw mill to make paper.

Yes, you should respect all the animals but I see nothing that the OP did as disrespectful. Live feeding is the natural way of doing things, and the rate of injuries to the snakes from live feeding corresponds with the irresponsibility of the owner and how they feed live.
Some snakes do not eat f/t. I have one that I've had for 2-3 years that still won't eat f/t to this day. That's just how they are sometimes.

If you think that it's cruel, then sell your snakes and start collecting stamps.
