Re: I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
Derek,
Is the mold inside of the entire egg? What does the outside of the sheel opposite of the mold look like (if it is a localized mold problem)? I have many times had mold on the inside of an egg that is right under a funny looking spot on the egg. It has never harmed the hatchling in my case. At day 54, I would think that snake will be just fine.
Re: I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
That's the first time I have heard/seen of this happening...this is a very strange event as the "good" eggs are supposed to have their own "protection" from this kind of thing. I wonder how mold could get a foothold inside??
Was the egg damaged in anyway?
Regardless, thanks for sharing!:)
Re: I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
I think this one is fine.
Crappy to have lost some in the first clutch though.
Re: I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
Sorry about the others Derek and I wish you the best of luck with this one :please:
Re: I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
I also have never heard/seen this. I hope everything turns out good Derek !!

Del, you've gone one perfect little miracle...
Someone phone 1984 - I demand a mulligan of my life since.
Hi,
I just got back from the family visit and it is, sadly, not a happy update. :(
Saying that the egg had problems would be an understatement (it's number 1 in this pic );

But all the visible mold or problems on the external shell were on the bottom with no sign of the internal mold showing on the top left of it here;

So, externally, it was at the front bottom of the egg I was seeing and treating mold but when I chainsawed my way in the mold was at the top back. :weirdface :confused:
When I checked today it was sadly obvious it had passed in the egg - and then when I removed it that didn't seem like the worst of the possible outcomes. :tears:

The pattern on the belly and the spot on top of the egg have me puzzled though. :oops:
I had thought it was a lesser but now I really do not know what it was - could the strange pattern be development related or egg stress? :confused:
I'm trying to decide if I should repeat the pairing next year or not.

Re: Someone phone 1984 - I demand a mulligan of my life since.
Derek,
First of all, sorry for your loss. I would say from the coloration on the snake that it probably died somewher around day 50 or slightly before, as the black is very plae. It is possible that it lost a bit of color after it died, and actually died around day 55 or so. The lack of some color makes it hard to discerne if it was a Lesser or Normal. I would say that the pattern is probably a result of the egg stress, and not genetically inhereted from a parent. With that siad, unless you have something really interesting to pair with the dame next year, I would repeat the breeding to make absolutely sure there is nothing going on.
I hope that helped,
Re: I have mold INSIDE my egg?!?!?!!?!?
Sorry to hear such sad news Derek. :(
