Another problem is the fact that most pet stores don't educate their customers in the proper care for certain animals.
Take Petco for example....they put a lot of effort into care for dogs and cats, and even host training sessions in the store, but when someone buys a Ball Python they try to sell them a huge glass tank, a tree bark hide, a heat rock, heat lamp, and those terribly calibrated thermometers, which we all know is not the right way to house a baby BP. They don't even house them anywhere near the ideal environment in the store.
Owning a BP is so rewarding when raised properly. I smile just knowing that my BP's are thriving and growing, which makes me want to keep going. The "mis-informed" pet store customers never get that feeling and end up wanting to move on to something else to get it
