The white stuff, more than likely, was a sperm plug or plugs if your snake is a male and old enough to produce them.

As to the amount of pressure that would damage a snake, I couldn't say. Someone with more experience than me would have to answer that. Best bet is to find an experienced breeder or herper in your area that could demonstrate proper technique for popping and help to show you hands-on how to do it correctly, for you and your snake both. YouTube has some decent videos showing the technique as well, but nothing beats being shown in person.

    Good luck!

The best thing is to have someone local show you how to pop, while watching videos helps, it does not give you the idea of how much pressure to apply.

Pressure and proper position of your fingers is important.

Once someone shows you keep practicing and you will be able to pop any snake.

Cool. Thanks guys. I'm sure a live demonstration would help a ton. Just seems like there are a lot of scare tactics when it comes to this procedure. I'm a nurse and am extremely comfortable when it comes to delicate procedures just got a little irritated with all the don't do it and have someone else do it posts.

I mean if the pressure used is close to the amount of pressure it take to damage then I understand.
