Same here - Triple antibiotic is your best bet for now. Just make sure it doesn't have anesthetic! I believe Bacitracin has anesthetic so don't use that. Generic Neosporin is good and it's cheap - just go to Walmart or your local drug store and compare active ingredients. You should be able to get it for under $5 anywhere you go.

I would take her to the vet for follow up as soon as you're able to. Try not to worry too much - I think she'll be ok. If your vet is willing to advise you over the phone, call 'em. If they want to see the snake before recommending anything, well make the appointment for Thursday and hang in there til then. These guys are pretty darn resiliant... :gj:

Okay. Thank you so much, for the info.
I'll be picking up a tube tomorrow, on account I have work tomorrow, and I work at walmart. Do you think she'll be fine for the rest of today? and most of tomorrow (i'm not out until 9). If any one thinks I should treat it today, a family member of mine might have some neosporin or the triple antibiotic at their house. but if not, will she be okay?

I think she probably will be. You might gently wash the area with a soft cloth and warm water to make sure there's no "dirt" around the area and make sure her enclosure is REALLY clean. This will help prevent any infection from getting started over night.

On the other hand, if you just fed her, it might be better to leave her alone and just thoroughly spot clean her cage. Stress won't help her right now either. But that kind of depends on your snake. If she'll tolerate the gentle washing without stressing too much and its been at least several hours since she ate, I would wash. But those are just my thoughts...

    Keep us posted!

I just cleaned her cage yesterday. I have a nice clean piece of eco-carpet in there. And so it's just out there, I soak the old, soiled one for 48 hours, if not longer in a nice bleach/water solution.
Thank you everyone for the information that was provided. It really means a lot to me. And I'll make sure I keep posted on this.
Yeah, she's not even in her hide, she's keeping her head on the top of her hide, while her body's inside it. She's normally inside her warm hide all the way by now.
I just called my family member to see if she has any kind of neosporin or something along those lines, so if I can't get to her today, then I can do it tomorrow before I go to work. But I'll try and treat her tonight at around 10ish.
Thank so much everyone on the info and advice! It really does mean a lot to me!

Just relax. She's not going to develop any infection today that Neosporin won't fix tomorrow. Somehow, she'll probably come out just fine. And even without an eye, she'll still be fine. They barely use them anyway. Yes, I do feel bad for her and I'll feel worse if she does lose the eye, but she can live just fine without it if it comes to that.

Don't beat yourself up for feeding live. You're one of thousands, probably more, who do. I do. Dr. Del does. It was an accident. They just happen and there's nothing you could have done about it because there's no way you could have known. What happened happened and couldn't have happened any other way. Look forward, give her rest and quiet time, treat it when you can, and keep hope up. Good luck.

I agree with this - don't beat yourself up about it. You're a good mom who actually found the injury right away. Good for you for being so observant! She'll be fine - no worries tonight, 'k? ;)

Okay. Thanks everyone. I know it was an accident. But I can't help but beat myself up over this. Im one of those people who beat themselves up over some of the smallest things. I see it as my fault at the same time because I did feed her the live. But now I know I'll feed her f/t now. And if she doesn't take it, then I'll buy live and stun them or something. I'll work things out when I cross that bridge.
And thanks. I check on her everyday, and try to keep a observent eye upon her. It also help that I've started a little log to now, so I know what could be out of the ordinary. I don't think I'm going to bother her tonight, seeing how she finally got her whole body inside her hide, but I'll put some on tomorrow before I leave for work.
Does any one have any tips on how I should put on the neosporin? I was thinking a nice sized dab on the end of a q-tip and smear it kinda like that. Would that work? Or is there any better way to do it?

Just smear it on like you would any other injury.

Feeding live isn't what happened. What happened was a completely random incident.

    Thanks for the tip.
Update: I know it's only been a day, but I checked her out today and her eye looks a little better. I put on some neosporin and she took it well. She didn't try to pull away... so I don't know if that's a good sign or a bad one. But I put it on so gently, that she might not of felt the need to pull away. I also noticed her tummy is slightly pink. I don't know if it's due to the food digesting that does this (due to the fact I haven't handled her with in 24 hours after a big meal), because I noticed that it's only where the rat kinda is. I know it's not a burn, due to the uth doesn't reach above 94 (and there is a layer between it and her). Or if she'd going into shed (though on her last shed's she didn't really have a pink belly). If she's going into shed, great, but I'm also kinda p/oed about it because the vet won't be able to get a great look at her eye. So that's just the little 24 hour update. Next post will be if it turns out she's going into shed, after the vet visit, or if it happens to get worse (which I very much so prey it won't).

Thank you everyone again for all the advice and tips on how I can help her. I've calmed down so much compared to yesterday it's not funny. I have myself prepared for the worst, but I do hope everything turns out for the better. I'm keeping my hopes up for her.

From what I've read around here, shedding is a part of the healing process and she may have constant shed cycles until she heals completely. If the vet's good, I'd think it wouldn't be too much of a problem. (complete and total assumption)
