I did 2 part rose flavor for a while. They loved the stuff.

I got a deal on complete formula pre-flavored mix and gave it a shot. The geckos didn't seem to care and loved it the same.

    I know,

I have this nagging curiosity to see a really red pinstripe with huge crests and the only way I will have one is to buy the bits and breed my own.

Now all I need to do is understand basic care and morph genetics.

morph genetics are basically non-proven from what ive been told. theres no 100% way to know what youll get. basically people get 2 geckos they really like and breed them and its a crap shoot as to what comes out. kinda confuses me, but oh well.

breeding is pretty easy, considering people on other forums are doing it on accident! a person put a male and female together for one night to see if they liked eachother(lol) and a few months later had some eggs. they mate once and produce 2 eggs at a time usually producing 18 a season.

Genetics are somewhat unknown, but generally speaking you get one of four things when you breed cresteds:
    1. offspring that look like dad
    2. offspring that look like mom
    3. offspring that look like a combination of mom and dad
    4. the occasional offspring that look nothing like mom or dad (sometimes in these cases they look like the grandparents or great grandparents)

After you have been working with them for a little while you start to get an idea of what 2 geckos will likely produce. You can also learn what your specific animals tend to produce, and pair them accordingly.

While crested breeding is fairly easy, you still need to make sure your geckos are of proper age, weight and health prior to being bred. Cresteds also retain sperm, so they can continue to lay for anywhere from 3-8 or so months after the male and female are separated. How many eggs a female produces in one season depends on many things--there really isn't a normal set number. The number depends on how old she is, her weight and health, whether or not it is her first season and how long she is kept with the male.

My repashy has been dispatched so should be here fairly soon.

Can anyone tell me what colour of lights I should use to watch him at night? I was thinking of using a small blue 15w pygmy incandecent to also keep the night time temps up slightly.

And if I should fit a small tube for a day night cycle or if the room ambients will be enough?

if you want to see him jumpin around a red or blue bulb will work fine without bothering him, i use a red bulb myself. mine thrive at room temp, which is around 75 in the reptile room. at night it goes to around 70, as long as they are under 83 or so they will be fine, and not much lower than 65.

i dont really use any lights for daytime, the light from the window seems to be enough, and the bearded dragons lights. during the day he will usually be really light, they dont fire up til its dark. if you want to see his true colors, you can take any dark container and cover him up for a few minutes, and when you pull it off he should be completely dark.

if you want a good website to read up on for them you can look at pangeareptile.com/forums.
