mites are like head lice pretty much. Their not that easy to get rid of so i hear ;)
Re: Strange behavior from BP. . .
I was in the same situation, and on a VERY tight budget when I found out my snake had mites. I took out all her substance(which was bark) and put in newspaper, so I was able to see any mites walking around. When I cleaned out the substance, I vacuumed out the cage (to get rid of any possible eggs, and I have a glass cage), and then I rinsed it out. I never did the bleach/water solution because I didn't have time, but I would suggest it because it was highly suggested to me. I also bought PAM, and though it's a little expansive (or so I think), it's well worth the investment. I haven't had a problem, and even the vet said she was 100% mite free, and it was all because of the PAM. And it comes in a decent can. I know spray everything down before I put it in her cage (but not water dishes). I highly suggest it, and I doubt you'd be upset with it, I know I wasn't. If anything, it's one of the best things I got for her, and everyone else here also highly recommends it. And throw out the wood log.
As for her shed, don't sweat it. As long at the humidity is up she'll shed it off when it's time. It's been a decent amount of time from when you noticed her going into "blue" then you might want to help her. I had to take all the shed off my girl, and thank goodness when I helped her shed her head, her eye caps came out with it (and her eyes are fine, I got them checked out today). If her eye caps don't come off, I wouldn't worry and just leave them on until her next shed, but I don't see why they wouldn't come off as long as everything is correct.
