Our daughter took Elvis outta his snake bag (our Kingsnake) and of course all the kids went "Oooooo" and "Aaaaah". The one kid up towards the front raises his hand all excited like, so my wife calls on him. It went something like this...

    "Yes, you have a question?"
"Uh-huh. Well, once my Dad and us kids - we found a Kingsnake in our backyard once."
"Really?! Did it look just like Elvis here?"
"Yeah, it did. Then my Dad started whacking it with a shovel and we threw rocks at it."

    ...sigh...

wow that's not something you wanna hear about. Kid probably didn't know better but the dad seems pretty ignorant. But then again, with people who don't know much about snakes, he was probably just trying to protect his kid.

if you cant take the snake out, do this, get some kind of clear carrier/box that the kids will be able to see into easily to see the snake. a cat carrier will only allow them to see in through the front door & its fairly dark inside...the kids wont be able to see the snake too well, hence getting something clear.

Bingo. Ignorance runs totally rampant for the most part, including the adults. Every show we have put on at least one kid who boast about how his or her Dad kills or has killed snakes of every type when they encounter them. (What I really felt like saying as a response I won't post!)

Ironically, these are probably the very same people who complain about the packrat problem we have but at the same time think nothing of killing the very thing that controls them, which was part of our response.

Took our bp to two 1st grade classes and a 5th grade class, just carried her right into the schools. The best part is getting kids who have awful ideas about snakes to learn that they are pretty cool. I was also surprised at how many kids raised their hands and said they had snakes at home for pets. Have a great time and the kids will love it.
