Frustrated Keeper

First...yes it is fairly "normal" for a Ball Python not to eat for months.

Now BG is gonna give you some tough love. He may start doing this with everyone with this problem. This is what BG wants you to do.

OK I took his ASF put it in the pillow case made three good loops and smaked him on a solid wood table, just to make sure the unfortunate deed was done and the poor little booger wasn't just knocked out (not cool for anyone involved) I gave him a couple more good whomps. I put them both in the pillow case if he doesn't eat by this evening I will remove the ASF and pillow case and fill up his tub with crumpled newspaper until next week and try again.

Thanks for the advice folks, I guess my noobness is getting the best of me, I do feel alot more comfortable. I will let you guys know how it goes.

On a great note my little mojo that I just got from Till ate 2 juvenile ASFs.

I'm no snake expert, but you didn't get your math right. He's lost about 14.8% of his body weight ( (725-618)/725 * 100 = 14.758). I'm no BP expert, I'm here to learn, so I don't know if a (roughly) 15% body weight loss should be a concern. I'm hoping he'll eat again soon.

For most ball pythons it's very natural. One of my big girls would not eat for 11 months:rage:

Snakes going off feed from like oct-april-may can be common last year I had two or three that went off feed for 6+ months.

Glad he finally ate for you, dude.

Yell all you want; they're deaf so they don't mind.;) I know the feeling mine goes on strike from Nov.-Mar. each year apparently. By late Feb I was getting seriously stressed about it. I'm not sure what is considered "drastic" weight loss, but I say just stay cool and wait 'em out. I know. Easier said than done. Good luck.

I have male that's been off feed all winter--no worries, they'll eat when they're ready. It's supposed to warm up again in a couple of days, and I'm planning to do rounds and offer them all food again then.
