Re: Happy Easter ie. Rabbits on Craig's List!
I had pet rabbits a couple of years ago. Two brothers. They were free range in the apartment and got along great with the kitties. They would chase after them. It was funny to watch . But out of the blue one started to have seizures at 6 months old and died. I got a replacement to keep the other company. He got a scratch, not a cat scratch either, and it poisoned his system and he died. The third one when he hit 6 months died of seizures too. Some thought that though I got the third one from a pet store he came from the same breeder, in town and there may be a genetic defect.

Anyway I am bunny free, I don't want to end up with more dead bunnies. But like with my ferrets, I don't believe in caging animals that can be out with everyone else. I only cage the rats and the guinea pigs and the birds...for obvious reasons. But they are centrally located where they are part of everything, not pushed of in a corner.

Concerning Craigs List and people dumping their 'beloved' pets there. I am soooo sick of hearing. "I want (insert name) to have the kind of attention he needs and deserves" Good god why did you get a pet when you didn't want to give it attention....JERKS!....And it's usually followed up with "And the rehoming fee is (a butt load of money) so the evil snake owners won't feed him to it".....LIKE YOU CARED!

If you feel you have to browse craigslist for people's pets to feed to your snakes to save a buck..

Downsize or start breeding your own feeders. Jeez louise people.

I can say in the past when I had big snakes I would get my rabbits directly from the breeder. She was breeding for show and any animals that weren't show quality were destined to be fed off. I did however, get rabbits off Craigslist a few times, you just have to be honest with the person that has them. The majority of the time the person will tell you that it is a pet and if it is going to be used as a feeder that they will not let it go. There is nothing wrong with calling a classified ad for rabbits with the intention of seeking feeders. Remember, a lot of the time the people placing those ads are breeders.;) That being said, you are best off hooking up with a show breeder as I did, due to the fact that they will be able to meet your weekly demand for rabbits and you won't freak the neighborhood out looking for feeders. Just my opinion though...
