I feel for you! My wife kicked me to the basement! I tried a space heater down there because is was about 60-65(in winter) but the heater couldn't heat the space very good so I put up some fake walls will a couple 2X4's and covered the walls will plastic and cut the plastic in strips for a door like the ones on a walk in fridge. Now the heater keeps it toasty at 80 and saves money on hydro. This may be an idea for your garage!

The only issue I see with a space heater in the garage is that once the garage door opens, all the heat goes bye bye. The heater would have to be on 24/7 and that will make for an awesome electricity bill :/

A little space heater does not cost much! My bill when up only $20! If its totally closed in then the heat does not escape! I live in the great white north too! My basement is heated but this is just an extra source! It's not about cost, it's about the best care!!!

I would try to corner them off in a little make shift room, or try to get your wife to let you use a closet as a "snake room".

I'm in California too, idk where you are, but it's getting chilly outside, and is supposed to be getting colder with a chance of rain. I'd try to get those ambient temps up quickly.
