Obviously if you have doubt and do not know which one it is, this would suggest that you do not have a thermostat to regulate the temps in your enclosure?

If this is indeed the case please get one, you MUST control your heat source to prevent over-heating and possible burn.

The only thing I have left to get is an accurate thermometer/hygrometer for the tank. It wasn't super hot, but it was probably mid 90's.

That brings up another question. I have seen two types of thermometers/hygrometers at my LPS. One is a digital one that measures both temp and humidity. It is $40. The other are two separate meters with needles instead of a digital readout. They are much cheaper ($16 for the pair). Are those bad to use? Should I spring for the more expensive one? Where should they be placed on the tank?

get an accurite indoor outdoor thermometer. 15.00 at your local homedrpot/walmart/lowes

I was thinking pre-shed, and it still very well may be, but since you don't have anything measuring temps, if this is not a burn, it could be one in the future if you are not careful.
Deciding mid 90's by touch is usually flawed.
I use a heat gun, which I like because I use it for hot and cold sides of all my enclosures. I don't really trust my dial type hygrometer. Maybe it is fine, but I want to pick myself up a small digital one nonetheless.
