    I think because it is a common problem with a lot of reptiles, people just tend to make a blanket statement about the risks of impaction. I too have never heard of substrate impaction in snakes. I have had snakes eat mouth fulls of wood chips and be just fine.

    I think people just freak out when they see their snake with a mouthful of bedding and just jump to the conclusion that its going to get impacted. For many species of lizards this is a valid concern, but not snakes.

    I use that substrate and love it.

    I have noticed some does stick to the rat and gets caught up a little in his mouth, but it's so little of an ammount that I feel like I shouldnt be concerned about.
    My snake also takes the liberty of rinsing his own mouth out after eating by mashing his mouth in the water however.
