I can't get him to take a f/t rat in the tubs. I would rather him eat a live rat than nothing at all. He's been fasting since November and really needs some weight back on.

When did you switch them to tubs? What size tubs are they? Are you providing them with hides?

I switched them to tubs about two months ago, switched to live rats after the first month of refusals now he's eating great. The tubs are 34qts (thinking about going larger) and yes they both have a hide. My male only uses it after a meal and occasionally, but is mostly outside of the hide either on top or behind it. I use the small kitty litter pans they sell at walmart.
Keep in mind that when I got them they were very sick, and their previous owner fed HUGE live. The first thing I could get them to take was pre-killed rats but they slowly started refusing them.
It get very costly to throw away every rat that they refuse. I feed two small rats to avoid injuries, and am breeding my own rats to avoid having to feed such large prey ever again. It makes me feel like crap when my babies get hurt :'(
On a good note, her eye is barely graised so I'm not too worried anymore, she has already formed an eye cap.
