Best GTP

I can't believe what im reading, im not claiming to be an expert at all, but this was a subject I asked greg maxwells thoughts on at tinely park in 07 and along with what I read on the few chondro forums I've been following for a few years. thats my research. no I don't have your experience, but I listen to those who do.

To the OP:

The best beginner GTP is one that is feeding and healthy. To get that, shop around and communicate with the seller.

It is tons easier and more likely to find a handleable snake (of any species) to specifically shop for one that is already handleable than shop for specific locales/subspecies/whatever and take a chance on "statistics" and heresay.

If you want a healthy, feeding, handleable GTP, buy one that is already all of those things, regardless of locality.

I never claimed to be an expert either. I was originally stating my opinion as were you. You took my opinion as a false blanket statement. Sorry if I sound like an ass, but hands on experience goes further than second hand information....especially coming from someone that, if I recall correctly, only had one pair of locale type animals. Everything else was from fairly mix heritage.

So im involved in the BSA and if I can get ther really hard to get high rank of Eagle my dad will let me get a GTP. He is still sort of scared every time my BPs jerk around or feed. So i dont want to set him off from snakes. Thats why i wanted to find a more docile type. Also would it be better to get a neonate or yearling? I really want the experience of raising the snake from a neonate and seeing His/her color change but if its too hard or not good for the snake i would have to decide.

Neos are very delicate for about the first 6-8 months. I would recommend starting with something 8-12 months old. Once you understand their behavior and requirements, you could possibly try your hand at a neonate. The best thing to look for is a CBB chondro with a solid feeding record.

I agree a yearly is best in fact I started out this way and never looked back I was just telling my family last night it’s really the best way for someone to start out with a GTP is a yearly because its established eating and more hardy.
