Re: Ball pythons fade away ?
Ball pythons have been popular for decades so I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon! New people are joining the hobby everyday!

Re: Ball pythons fade away ?
Dont expect to sell them for what you paid. The prices are constantly going down, and new morphs are appearing all the time.
Ball pythons arent going away
Re: Ball pythons fade away ?
There are reason I think you'll see ball pythons hang around.
1: They are a snake when they are babys. What I mean by that is even as babys they look like a snake. Many corn, king ect as babys look like great colored worms. They don't get that "Snake" feel to them till they get bigger.
2: Size.. Even the biggest Ball pythons isn't to big even for a child to handle. So they stsy in that great Pet snake size. they are easy to house and care for compaire to Cham's, frogs, or even some geckos.
3: Mutations I like Corns and kings but lets face it when it comes to the out ragous morphs ball pythons have everything else beat hands down. I mean there are Corn morphs that have to be explained cause they look so much like each other but With ball pythons there's no way a pied can be mistaen for a Spider or a Bee Mistaken for a Lesser ect ect ect.
3: Clutch size, Compaired to corn and Kings and the like the number of eggs females lay is small. other than geckos and such Ball's lay some of the smallest clutches in the reptile world. I think even turtles have them beat.
4: Combos, I have yet to see any other Morphed reptiled other than Leopard geckos that Combos are such a hot ticket. When we start seeing 5-6 even 7 gene animals going to 200.00 then its time to worry.
So with the low numbers each animal lays, the fact that the mutations are so vastly different (for the most part)
Ball Pythons still have decades of potentional to offer the hobbiest keeper/breeder and the professional breeder.
Gone are the day of 30K animals sold to the select few but in it's place is the era of selective breeding, and careful project planning to see the hobby continue to grow as I know it will.

Id like to sell the babies for around the prices i paid for them. i dont want to breed and then sell for nothing as whatever i make will be going into racks and more ball pythons
i will never take money put of what i make for eny other reason. its a hobby that i plan in keeping
I would say that 50 adults is pretty standard if you are thinking about becoming a full time breeder and having a storefront and all. My distributor has that many in his house and hes a breeder/owner/and storefront owner.
I would say good luck with selling the babies for the prices you paid for them. No disrespect, but the prices are dropping, not going higher. I bought my female pastel for $425 2 years ago and now you can get one for $200-250. Because your starting out you have to see that by the time your female (if shes a morph) gets to be of breeding age, the price to breed her get babies will be lower than what you paid for her. Unless your trying to come out with some special never done morph, your going to be selling them for less.
Thats why you should never enter into this hobby thinking that your going to become rich or make a profit. Housing 50 snakes is going to get very expensive in food, heating (your electric will go up), and if any of them get sick than your making a hefty trip to the vet.
Thats why I'm keeping my collection small. I wrote out the morphs I want and what I want to breed. Everyone on here is wanting to produce BELs. They are beautiful, but think about it, if it becomes a common project the price is going to be dropping on them. Do this hobby because you like it not because your expecting to get paid.
