Re: When did you start breeding feeders?
I started 16 years ago when I had large constrictors. I learned quickly that rats are not the answer for large constrictors. Find a local livestock auction house and buy rabbits, chickens and pigs. Soon I had a bunch of rodents and no use for them. But I knew a group of snake owners and starting selling them here and there. Then I got involved with pet shops and it all evolved. The trick with breeding feeders is to make it worth the hassle in cost and time.

I have been breeding rats and mice for about 8 months I guess. It took at least half of that for me to get my colonies up to what I really needed to have. I have mice (swiss websters), rats, and A.S.F.'s

Re: When did you start breeding feeders?
We started breeding our own feeders when the cost of buying was greater than the cost of raising our own. For us it was simple math pay 400.00 a month on rats or pay 1200.00 every 6 months for rat food and bedding.. Its half as much..and I never have to worry about not having rats or not having the right size..
