I am a 15 year old Dutch kid who moved here at age 11. Of course I do not celebrate July 4.

Ha, I figured! July 14 the day of the French revolution, and the infamous Tennis Court Oath!

I had to do a paper on it today so it was fresh on my mind :P

Sometimes I figure I know just about the same knowledge of America as other countries... :D

I'm going to assume he had no choice in moving here. 15 years old, moved here a few years ago?

Personally if I wasn't an American, but I was here over the 4th anyways, I'd want to take a part in the festivities. Not for any value about perceived meaning behind it, but because it's fun to get a bunch of people together, grill some food, eat chips and salsa, swim in someone's backyard pool, and shoot off some fireworks.

Even alot of born americans do not celebrate most holidays for their original reason anyway. Alot of holidays are just an excuse for a paid day off of work to party. Aside from cinco de mayo, I would expect most immigrants to celebrate the 4th just because its a good excuse to party and have fireworks.

My grandparents on my dads side immigrated from Italy. They immediately took on the holiday customs of the USA. Every single year and every single holiday the USA had, was celebrated in US custom. The 4th became a huge cook out with fireworks and american flag/red white & blue decorations just like any born american would do.

I never asked my family why. Thats just the way it was. But they also celebrated their own holidays, so in essence, they had twice as many holidays or days of rememberance.

I think you may find a difference if you were to examine families with and without children... just a thought.
