Why a HUGE variation in prices?

I understand a SLIGHT price variation, but not the ones that are hundreds of dollars more for a slightly different shade or pattern.

And I know a guy in the area who sells baby normals to local Petsmarts and Petcos for $15 a pop. Then yes they turn around and mark them up to $80-100 and fail to even take care of them. But yes they will come down on the price if you ask, most just dont ask and will buy their kid a BP from a petsotre anyway.

Unless he's their national supplier, he's not selling to Petsmart and Petco - they have a contract with ONE national supplier out of Florida, last I heard. Individual stores cannot work deals with smaller, private breeders - they can only order from the single company that has been contracted with. If they are, they are breaking their own corporate policy.

I would rather buy a lesser for that price.

For me I'd rather pay more for a morph from an established and respected breeder.

I don't mind the extra cash for a snake I know is from good stock, has a traceable history, and for the customer service in case there is an issue with a snake.

Sure you can pay $150 for a mojo from some dude online, but how sure can you be that the snake is healthy and illness free. Often you may find that once you have bought the snake and something negative with it crops up that the response from the seller is "Sorry for you".....

i think price has alot to do w/ the breeders economic standpoint and inventory. There is no sense in sticking to a $300 price tag when people arnt buying how they used to and you got a few more clutches on deck.

Think what you must but it's happening. I dont know anything about national suppliers. All I know is I have seen it with my own eyes. For at least the last 18 months that I have lived here anyway.


I understand the concept of prices by location, reputation and variables like that, and a variance is to be expected. But when you have a $400 or more difference is a bit too much if you ask me.

It depends on the over all price 400.00 difference on a 10,000.00 animal I'm not to worried about but you get under 1000.00 and it's over half yea that's an issue.

$400 difference can seem like alot but im a tru believer of you get wat you pay for. just dont go paying that difference to someone off craigslist. Fortunatley this market hasnt been commercialized yet so your gonna have a wide range of prices. lol ive seen baby pastel males going for 200 when i can get em for 40 at a show? I think alot of people try to factor in the amount of time and effort they put towards their projects making it more "valuable" to them....but not us who check kingsnake or fauna everyday
