    I realize that there is some inconsistency with them. But for example, this past year my het pied x het pied clutch produced 1 pied, and 5 ph pieds. Of those 5, 3 had really strong het markers. Two just looked normal.

    That is 3/5 or 60% which look like they could be het, which is right around what you'd expect based purely on probability.

    So while it doesn't guarantee anything, it might give some hints as to whether or not an animal is actually het. At a minimum help you make an educated guess.
