This is a test of what WE have been saying too. If they CAN survive this cold snap, we may have to admit that they might be able to survive further north than WE thought, if only by just a bit. We'll have to wait and see what sort of population remains there after all of this. It hasn't been easy to count what's there as it is, though.
The other unfortunate point is that this has been an event that took these animals to their limits...and the animals remaining are going to be the ones that handled it best, or were lucky. If you have any kind of population remaining of animals able to weather cold a bit better, you have adaptation in the making.
It may seem a terrible thing, but let's hope for LOTS of dead Burms.

As bad as it is to hear about the death of the native animals, I really hope this knocks some sense into the people thinking the everglades was being destroyed by big snakes. Thanks for posting this.
