You need thermometers with probes and you place the probe on the glass where the probe of the thermostat is so you know when proper temp is reached and don't have the snake in there until you have it all connected and the temps are set right. You need an infrared light bulb not just a regular red bulb because its the infrared light waves they can't see! No handling for 48 hours after a feed and 24 hours before a feed. If you handle too soon after a feed then the snake may regurge! I must say for a beginner, you are doing a great job on the setup! Better than most pet stores!!!

Just to say the probe of the thermostat is best placed outside the snakes enclosure between the UTH and the bottom of the tank. :)
