There are tons of different Boas but I would get a Brazilian Rainbow Boa or a Amazon Tree Boa.

    Just my opinion
Dumerials - nice but they are a heavy body snake and do get big even my males are 7-8'
Colombians - the best IMO not as big around as a dumerial but can get 8'
Salmon or Hypos - Most have the temperament of the colombians but way smaller 5-6'
Central Americans - small? sometimes, but not mine and the 30+ I have are not nice.
Nicks - in with the centrals nippy.
Brazilian rainbows - very pretty, they get long but much more slender
I never had rosy boas or sand boas so I can't say

If you were talking to me with your kids I would steer you to a salmon that is about a year old.
The reason for this is because most boas are nippy until they are about a year old. I call it the survival mode. If I stand tall and hiss and strike at you, you will not eat me.

Not every snake is a perfect example of its species...I'd say a Brazilian since my girl is the sweetest snake ever, she puts up with so much with nothing as much as a hiss.

What Salmons are you talking about? I thought they were columbians...

Oh yeah, calker cay, pearl islands, corn island boas are all smaller boas with a little more originality then the typical hogg island, which I would also recomend. ~Caylan.S.~

I may as well add in the Columbian Rainbow boa. They are definitely beautiful, I had to deal with some on Saturday at my volunteer job. They were so beautiful up close and their eyes are quite amazing. Definitely a boa I wouldn't mind keeping.

Salmon boas are also called hypo's. Rich Ihle named the first salmon boa for its color

Pearl Islands, corn islands are very nice small boas but cost more.

The sonoran boas stay small and have (generally) wonderful temperaments. My little Tarahumara boy is an awesome snake to hand to people who may be a bit nervous about handling snakes. He's calm as can be. He's also about 40", and is a young adult.

I have Sabogaes, which are also called Pearl Island boas, and Nics. Both stay under six feet. Both my Sabogaes are docile, other than snapping at the cage when I walk by. Some of my Nics are docile, while others are not. The ones that are not are calming down though, since I gave them hides. You could also go with a male Columbian BCI. My adult male is around five feet, and docile as can be.

I would go with a Dumeril, I had one and it ate anything I put in there! Great personality and just a great looking snake!
