    I seriously doubt that a shelf system would be eaiser to work with (could be wrong). I will agree on the clear water bin, I would hate to have to look in the top of each one to check the water level. Here's a pic of two of my mouse racks with the 2x2 hoppers (and a rat rack). Trust me those 2x4's you're using would be a definate upgrade on mine.

    nice set up man.

    rails are nice, I just see a shelf being easier, only issue I guess would be if the woods not straight, you might have issues sliding them, mayb thats why they use rails. o well, this rack isn't going anywhere unless I can sell it and get someone to put a deposit down for me to build another one.

    Thanks. I built a bearded dragon growout rack that could be used as a shelf style rodent rack (with different tubs to stop chewing), but it would be more expensive to build than a rail style. It has 1/4" mesh over the tubs like all of my rodent racks.
