BPs usually soak for only 3 reasons: they have mites, they don't have enough humidity, or they are using the water bowl as a "hide" because they don't have anything else they feel secure in.
You can use a very small water dish, as long as it is big enough the snake never runs out of water. However, if you switch to a smaller one, it will likely make your humidity drop. You made need one with a large surface area to keep the humidity up.

I agree completely. The only reason I use slightly larger water bowls is because my snakes have a habit of tipping the smaller ones.
I do have a question, In the previous picture you posted, I noticed your probe was about 1 inch away from the ground. For the other setup, did you move it so it was directly on the glass where the UTH is? This is the only way to know how hot it is actually getting. Remember, your snake spends a lot of time laying directly on the heating mat.

That probe you see in the pic is for humidity. The other probe is directly on the glass where the UTH is.
