I Live in British Columbia Canada as well and I don't know any other ball python keepers\breeders here that use lights to bring up the heat in the winter for Ball pythons, why wouldn't you put a space heater on a thermostat in room and use heat tape?

If you want to run a space heater then go for it. Some people just don't like using space heaters.

I don't know about you, but I prefer bad sheds over a dead snake.

Still dont need a heat lamp. Im in Michigan by water and its barely 20 outside and snake room 81 rest of house 68F.

Recently i put my space heater in a meter and when its on its only drawing 120 watts to maintain room at 81 set at 75. Thats using about same if not less power than a single heat lamp.
