    Okay well it seems like you don't really know the temps. You need digital thermometers with probes to determine the actual temperatures.

    What is his hot side hide like? Ideally you want two identical hides for the hot and the cool side. The "rock cave" kind are best or anything that is tight fitting, low to the ground, and has a small opening.

    He sounds like he very stressed. Ball pythons generally spend 90% of their time hiding. The extra 10% is when they are out looking for food. Roaming around is not a good sign.

    I actually do worry when people are using heat sources and think a layer of substrate will keep the animal from getting seriously burned. You need a thermostat or rheostat on the belly heating device.

    Did I forget to mention the thermometers/ hydrometer?
    The hide he has is the rock type. I'll see if I can get another one and put it on the other side. And my tank a 30 liter I believe. 3'x1'x1.5'

    I have the tank in a cupboard with a sliding door. He only usually moves around when I leave it open, and at night, but I never thought anything of it because I heard BPs are nocturnal.
