Well, there went my attempt at humor..
Was actually expecting more of a laugh instead of a correction.

Huh! How 'bout that! :) Maybe a bit of retained shed? Or, like someone said, a piece of substrate? Glad to hear she's doing okay!

when you say a bit of retained shed do you mean it could be an outer shell of the tongue? because thats what it looks like. kind of hollowish. shes still not flicking but maybe it will take awhile if its still there...

I'm thinking a shed more around the "lip" area as I don't think they actually shed the outer layer of their tongue/inside of their mouth?? But I could be wrong! Although a traumatic injury could cause any tissue to slough...have you got any kind of history on her? What she usually eats/habitat/etc.? Will she let you open her mouth to take a look?

thats what i meant as far as a shell. sloughed tissue. the kid i took her from was keeping her in an unheated plastic critter cage and she was dehydrated badly. he was feeding her live mice. ive been opening her mouth every night and now with whatever it was gone it looks really healthy but cant see the tongue yet...

Also some viruses and fungal infections cause oral plaques. Took a nice hunker of one out of a lesser's mouth a few weeks ago. Hope this new girl is in quarantine!

the kid i rescued her from was useless. i suppose it might have been a regurge but how would it make its way into her tongue hole? it is definitely perplexing. its too small to photo with my cheap camera. it does appear to have a very and i mean very slight fork appearance to it when i shine a flashlight from the other side so i can kind of see through it.
