I really like Dumeril's boas because they are extremely beautiful, and can DEFINITELY blend well within their natural home. Plus, their eyes are extraordinary. I loved getting eye shots of my Dumeril's. The stripe going through her eye was actually in her eye, meaning the pattern stripe continued through her eyes. They are definitely a very beautiful snake, and I did notice this snake had like a salmon color near the neck area. These snakes are very excellent and I really did enjoy keeping my girl.

The downside with Dumeril's boas is that they are pretty hard to get started to eat once they are first settled in their home. It took me 2 months to get mine to eat (live) then it took 5 months to get her over to F/T. They do also get stressed out very easily when they don't feel comfortable, so always make sure you're supporting its entire body (these snakes like to feel secure).

I'm surprised to hear you had trouble with getting yours to eat. I've always heard they are strong feeders. Mine isn't the most consistent but she's eaten f/t once or twice and live a couple times since I've had her (I've only had her since October).

I voted Dumeril's. I've had BCI's and do like them but I think Dumeril's are prettier personally and great dispositions. Mine is actually pretty active at night but they can definitely be secretive. Mine burrows a lot but it's kind of cool as she will just have her head exposed in ambush mode. And as mentioned, I had two very large female BCI's in my collection at one time so if size is an issue, keep that in mind.

If size, space, and food size/amount is an issue, go with a Dum. They stay smaller than BCI. However, if you're okay with a pretty large snake, definitely go for a BCI! They are sooo sweet and relaxed and gorgeous!!

    BCI love! (My yearling)

I've heard some a strong feeders, but some others are finicky. I got the finicky one when I owned my first. My second one is a very strong eater, she loves to eat her jumbo rats. She's always eaten too which I'm so glad about, I'm not sure about feeding large, live rats just yet:O

I'm voting BCI, because that's what I have and couldn't be happier with them.

BCC --- HOT HOT HOT Their markings are high contrast and look like they are painted on!

My vote is obviously biased, because I don't have any Dumerils. That being said; I still think that BCI is the best choice. The reason is.. a Dumeril's is simply a Dumeril's; and there are many BCI's out there, varying widely in size, temperament, size, appearance, morphs, etc. There is one out there for every taste & pocket-book.

I know I'm getting into this late, but i bred Dumerils for a few years and if the genetics are right, you can't find a better looking snake. A friend that owns a pet shop has an absolutely beautiful Dumeril right now. It is the lightest Dum I've ever seen. Talk about high pink.

The choice is yours, but I would recommend the Dumeril for ease of feeding (never had one refuse a meal), coloration, and size. A male is just about the perfect sized snake in my opinion.

I've got both, and frankly for personality I prefer the BCI. They seem to be much more outgoing and curious. More interactive. Dums have great colors and patterns, but they also don't come in any real morphs.
