Re: Del. Set To Regulate Exotic Animals
I think it fine Brunoheart. I know one guy small breeder, that got rid of all his ball pythons and got milk snakes to breed and I know they get close to 5ft ( not seen a n adult in person so not sure ) but even if I read the permit changes right he has to get them too and on top a business lic to breed and sell the young. I know of many a person that got a snake of some kind with out a permit and just don't give a rat about it. I got mine back in the mid 90's even befoer I had to have one I Igot it with my iguana and I never needed it. but i applied for a breeders permit cause i knew at some point I would get a pair of snakes that would make me interested in breeding ( never knew about all the bp morphs at the time), and it gone from there. I am so temped to go to the meeting if i get the info in time and ask to publicy speak about it. ( and I hate speaking infront of people).

I consider that too but I am not sure on how I could do so considering I have a number of eldery people relying on me to cut their grass( I see no point in an 70+ lady trying to push a yard( speically if over 1/4 acre) ) plus I got my grandmother, mother to worry about MY aunt and sister would bleed them dry tryingo t get gas money out of them every time you turn around. PLus the finaly straw is my disablity I am not sure on how/what I have to get it set up if I move to another state. mean if i get less/ more depending onthe area and I doubt I could survive on 600 a month when I paying 300 ( more less) on vechile. dang I need to win the lottery lol..

Re: Del. Set To Regulate Exotic Animals
An privat message I just recieved on here today from the local paper and I post me reply to it as well.
Hi.
My name is James (but I go by "J.L.") Miller, and I'm a reporter with The News Journal.
I'm working on a story about the new proposed regulations regarding exotic animals in Delaware, and I saw your comments on the matter.
I'm only starting my reporting on this issue, and I believe your input could prove very helpful.
Today is Thursday, Dec. 10. I'll be here until 4:30 p.m., and I'll be in the office from 9 a.m. To 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11.
If you could get in touch with me either of those days, I would really appreciate it. I'll be going on vacation for a couple of weeks after that, but if you see this e-mail while I'm on vacation, I'd appreciate it if you'd send me an e-mail with your contact information. I suspect I won't be wrapping up this story by day's end Friday.
For some reason, my normal company e-mail address has gone kerflooie. (That's a technical term.) However, you can reach me at this rather clunky corporate address:
You also can reach me at (302) ********. I work in our Dover office.
Hope to hear from you soon!

The News Journal
my reply to him
hello no problem Mom use to deliver the paper for you all might even know her (carol rogers)
Yeha the regulations changes will effect the few of us that do have the permits. I requested a chance at the meeting to talk but never heard back.
can call my at either *********** or
********** my cell to arrange a visit/ pictures of the snakes I not one the best reptile keepers and such but since the SPCA in delaware does not handle reptile issues My personal collection has gone from one or 2 snakes to over 13 ball pythons now. I have puchased het for some snakes cause I can not afford the high dollar mophs. I also have such snake that others were forced to give up as they found they could not get approve for the permit in Kent or New Castle counties.
I am hopingot get a copy of the news artical and will post it here .

Re: Del. Set To Regulate Exotic Animals
The photo guy came today and got photos and video ( mainly were interested in my largest snake ) I point out that she was among many of my snakes were rescues and . the new permit regulations in DE would make people like me that do the rescues almost impossible to maintain it as a hobby. I was asked if i was a profit breeder ( one who breed and sell snakes for money ) and i said no cause I am not. my only breeding plans were t orpove out my hets and possible come up wit ha combo morph to check that ut later on. The way the guy talked the story should be in he paper tomorrow. I am going to be checking each day to see if it is, and if it done right

Re: Del. Set To Regulate Exotic Animals
ok guy here the article in te news journal ( and yeah my ugly mug is holding 3 of the snakes in my small reptile room.)
http://www.delawareonline.com/articl...NEWS02/1020341
so let me and others know, the other reptile person Kinker( spelling?) own the one shop that closed but housed mutli snakes in a single cage... I want to try and find a way to contact the state vet and look into a meeting with them since the regulations were informed of for public meeting times posted ( like on the news and such only online and were/ are hard to find dates.)

If only it were that easy. Sadly this is becoming a trend. There are more and mroe states passing legislations. I have a feeling in the next few years all states will regulate exotics to some extent

Re: Del. Set To Regulate Exotic Animals
I think the states should regulate exotics to a degree. I think permits should be required for large cats, (sorry Denial) because they do present an elevated risk and it would screen out those who aren't prepared for the level of care they need. A lot of hots should require permits, again because of the high risk to the keeper, and the liability should the animal ever escape its enclosure. However, permits should be the exception, not the rule. There are way too many harmless, even highly social exotics to give them all exemptions, you'd have more animals exempt than regulated. Therefore, start with the dangerous animals, and leave the harmless ones like BPs and corn snakes alone.

No apology needed everyone is intitled to there own opinion.

Re: Del. Set To Regulate Exotic Animals
I know Denial is knowledgable and capable enough to care for a lynx or a bobcat, but for every one Denial there are probably five joe shmoes off the street who want a tiger because it's cool. Just like with large snakes. Let's say there's a one time license fee of, oh, 125 bucks. That's how much it is to get a driver's license in the province of Ontario, and I'd liken the risk of owning a big cat or a severely venemous snake to the risk of driving a car - you probably don't have to worry if you know what you're doing and you're attentive, but the risk is there. After that, there's a periodical renewal, maybe at no cost, maybe with a negligible processing fee.
I think a system like that would go a long way towards keeping the public and the suits happy, without barring the animals entirely. The catch is. the people who would want to bar private citizens from obtaining permits.
