Re: Could they have?!?!
From what I've seen, my BPs usually lock for at least 6 hours and sometimes go as long as 36 hours. It does take only one lock to fertilize, but that is probably the exception than the rule. This last year I had three pairs that locked many times for hours and didn't produce anything. Plus, she mentioned that the female was laying on top of the male. That's usually a dominant position and probably indicates that she wasn't receptive.
However, I don't want to discourage her. I just don't think that they locked last night and I wouldn't keep my hopes up if she didn't witness an actual lock. Keep pairing them together with breaks in between, and hopefully you'll get a nice clutch of eggs! :)

Keep in mind that the male ALWAYS lifts the tail of the female.
The girl is always on top.
Seperate them for a few days and introduce again.

Re: Could they have?!?!
Pop the males and see if he has plugs, if he does, there was probably no breeding. Also, look at the scale by the vent of the female, if it's folded over, there is a good chance they locked up.
Some breeders believe it's a good idea to clean those plugs out before you place males in a cage. It's always good to have some clean pipes when you want to squirt something.;):D
