    I have an Acu-rite and a PE-1 temp gun. I taped the probe down to my cage and let it sit for a couple hours. Once I had a steady reading on the Acu-rite I gave the spot a reading with the temp gun and the temperatures were nearly identical.

    Well you can't judge temperature by touch. Not because your body temp is 98.6*, but because the temperature of your hands varies quite a bit. Your extremities could be dramatically hotter or colder than your internal body temp.

    The thermometer is right.
