Re: How did you get into breeding balls?
I got started by accident actually. I had some boas and knew nothing at all had them together which resulted in babies... Well after that I kept them in different enclosures and someone actually paid me for my accident I was stoked.
After that I got a few BP's as presents actually and I decided I could do it so after a few tries I got eggs from a normal to normal breeding got 6 eggs incubated them with no knowledge on what I was doing and BARELY hatched them.
To this day I still do a few breedings of normal to normal just because I like being able to supply some friends with some normals at no charge or in tades for other normal females to get more out crossing. Plus I love seeing any snake hatch it is beyond a passion or obsession for me anymore it truely is my life no matter what.To this day I still have my first hatchling BP and my first boa born.
There is no feeling like seeing a year or more worth of hard work paying off with those little heads poking out of the egg. For me it is like having children, well the best I could compare it to because I can't have kids. But anyways without being way to long winded... Well no more than I already have been I will close with saying nothing is more rewarding than breeding my beautiful snakes.
Shameless self promotion I do have a thread with a few of my snakes on here go comment please.
Re: How did you get into breeding balls?
I always really enjoy threads like this.
I wanted snakes every since I was about 6, and I got to watch my brothers friends cornsnake eat a mouse. My mom never let me get one, and when I moved out I started learning about all the different types of reptiles, and was trying to decide between a Tegu, a Cornsnake and a Beardie... I ended up in a free petting zoo and was shown a pastel ball python. That pretty much settled it for me. I bought a normal 6 days later. After that it just keeps picking up pace, now I have 30 of my own, but have bred and managed collections up to 1500 animals of assorted species.
I agree, it is like Christmas everytime a clutch hatches. Especially when you have a clutch hatch and the female you bred your mojave to is a genetic black back. Got a black back mojave, and 3.1 black backs, and a few normals... it was a pretty nice surprise.
Re: How did you get into breeding balls?
I went to a show in Virginia where Brian Sharp was vending and saw a "Snow Ball Python", haven't looked back yet :). The 2010 season will be my first season breeding/incubating my own eggs :D.
Re: How did you get into breeding balls?
My daughter convinced me to go to a reptile show and I was facinated. From then it became an addiction and a passion.
Great thread BTW!
