all I have to say with my experience is, ASFs are fast critters but the ASFs pups.. Holy crap those things are FAST!! mine are about 5 weeks old and is almost unreal how fast they run and move...

Oh ya and I havent had any bad experiences with them, The original 1.2 that I bought arent very sweet or social, but not nasty either, never been bit or anything, they prefer to want to be left alone it seems. And the pups are sweet, but they are usualy scared for their lives when I aproach them at first, and FLY everywhere, very funny!! :gj:

I like when they bounce around like Popcorn. In my growout tank, they get playful and just chase each other, jumping randomly and bouncing off the walls like popcorn.

I have 2 breeder groups and they are really sweet. I reach in a pick them up every time I check on them, and have never been nibbled on. I'm wondering if I have the only nice ASFs out there?

I myself just started breeding ASF's and i found out the adults should never bother any babies. Theirs or not. You could take babies from one colony and put them with the other colony if there is a lactating female and they will take care of babies. You should also be able to add a female to a colony as long as there are no babies at that moment. Lots of little rules to remember about these guys but they are not what I thought they would be. At least mine arent mean like i thought they would be. VERY jumpy though. Have to move slowly with them. Also never drop one. If one gets dropped or scared its like a chain reaction and they all start bouncing.

My ASF's were regularly handled so they dont bite strangely enough. I have two 1.5 colonies going right now but i really need another colony with different bloodlines.

    some things i have learned.
Dont move slow when trying to catch them, if they are on the run they wont get a chance to bite you.
You can add and remove babies to other litters without problems.
To introduce a new member do it outside their main enclosure while your cleaning the main enclosure. I havent even had one fight doing it this way.

Thanks everyone so I have the first litter and they are about 3 weeks old I noticed one of them was eating out of the feed trough so should it be ok to move them? mom2 had a litter and either mom2s litter was larger than mom1s first or mom1 had a second litter. just wanna get them out and another thing when is it easier to figure out the sex I dont want any of these babies making babies as I dont have anything to feed any of these too.

when their eyes are fully open and they are eating and drinking on their own they should go ok to wean.

You can sex them when they are weaned. I dont think you have much to worry about with them breeding with each other right away though. It will take them at least 2 months after they are weaned to start breeding (from what i have experienced)
