Thanks, I have noticed with hides with the hole on top. Since I have started using them. I have only had one baby not start eating within a few days of its first shed. Before when using normal hides with holes on the side. I had a lot of picky eaters. Maybe it was just the snakes, or something to do with the hides. Who knows?

I've been using the plastic cat/small dog bowls from Target. This model is only a $1.19, and very smooth underneath--the 'finger holds' on the sides are just the right size to provide an opening for the babies to crawl underneath the bowl. These are both water bowls, and hides, in one. The babies seem to love them, and they save space in small bins.

They will fit in the small boaphile hatchling bins, and in the Vision hatchling bins as well.

Where are you guys finding the plastic flower pot bottoms? I used to get them at Walmart but the ones by me don't have them anymore. And even at homedepot they only have the clay ones.

i use non clear solo mk8 deli cups (the low 8oz ones).
i doubt your going to find a better deal than i got on them 99 cent for 25 of them. obviously they are overruns or they are not printed right
Re: What are the best hides for hatchling ball pythons?
Since I'm not as industrious as some people here (I am learning, though!), my 2 smallest babies have these - http://www.reptilebasics.com/Small-H...x-p-16404.html - only $4.39 but you pay shipping, which is why I bought a bunch at once. Then my slightly larger snakes use small exoterra caves, but I won't spend money on those again... great hides, but too expensive if you can make one yourself. When my first clutch is here, I'll probably go with the ideas above! :gj:

I haven't been able to find them lately, and will be ordering some online. I Googled a few months ago and posted the link to some. If I get a chance, I'll try to look for either that post, or Google them again. Even with Google, they are becoming harder to find.

I save the carboard rolls from all the papertowels I go though and cut them in half. They work great... and you don't have to clean them... just throw away and stick in another one when it gets dirty.

Most will only take live as their first meals. Some will need to be assist fed with f/t.
