I'm just curious when someone suggested to the OP to feed thier snake a small rat? I can't seem to find that post!

Howcome people prefer to feed rats to ball pythons? Wouldn't an adult ball python be fine on adult mice? Just curious, because I haven't been planning on switching my bp to rats ever.

Hm. Well, I get my rodents through the same place I got my snake. He breeds his own, and last time I went there (though the staff isn't the brightest crayon in the box) they said they didn't have any adult mice. Next time I go back, I'll talk to the owner. He seems to know more than his staff.

    Thanks everyone!

No one suggested it, it was something my BF and I were talking about.

It is recommended to feed your snake a prey item that is approx. 10 - 15% of its weight. So a 1500g snake should be eating 150 - 225g worth of prey, which is hard to attain through mice (without feeding 7 mice or so which is stressful). :gj:

Oh, I see. I always thought an adult mice would be large enough. My ball python is a male, so I'm not quite sure if males always get that big, but anyway I guess I should be converting to rats eventually. Thanks.
