Ok well I guess I'll go ahead and use the 42 qt for my girl for now. Also, I've been using Aspen and that's been working alright with my humidity but would it make it dryer in the tub if I used paper towels?

Yes. Which can be counteracted with a slightly wider bowl or by placing the bowl closer to the warm side.

As blackcrystal said, they will move it around if necessary - Toby used to push his ALL the way across the tub, but seems more content now that he's in a rack w/ flexwatt. I also got him a larger hide (partly because he had outgrown the old one), and with the heat tape running just along the back, he can even thermo-regulate from within the hide. My hatchlings also only have one hide a piece, and seem fine with that... Vinnie will lounge on top of his cave if it gets warm, and the others usually just lay in the opposite corner. My tubs aren't opaque, as far as I know, but the rack is enclosed enough to keep them feeling secure.
So I agree you could downgrade to one hide, since a 41qt might still be too large for Candace. My '08 snakes (Toby, Delilah & Rosalind) are all in 28qts, and have plenty of room... the only one in a 41qt is Mona, who is nearly 5ft long and 2000g. ;)

The snake certainly doesn't "need" all the decorations that you want to put in there. Decorations are more for the pleasure of the keeper.
