    No it doesn't. The only point of even putting in vermiculite, perlite etc. is to keep the water from sloshing around and getting on the eggs when you move the egg box.

    Yes. I use the same method, but I've used sphagnum moss, cypress mulch, rockwool, etc., as the substrates, and I've never had a problem. As long as the box is nearly air tight and the media can hold moisture and keep the relative humidity high, it will be all good.

    im currently using perlite and im just thinking if you used aquarium gravel you wont have any waste(can be cleaned) also it would better support the egg crate
