He has since determined that the two lines of Womas are actually two completely different mutations, one of which makes some awesome combos and one of which does not.
Hmmm.. this is very interesting. Thanks for sharing :)

If you don't believe me, ask Kevin McCurley. The information came directly from his mouth to my ear. (Well.....there was a phone line in between them ;))
I am unaware as to the genetics of the HG Woma, but as far as most in the hobby are concerned there is a lot of mystery involved with most of what NERD does.
I understand the need for secrecy when creating new combos and trying to be the first to make a designer morph and such, but when something comes out and has that much shock and awe, it simply creates questions. Most of which still have not been addressed.
At least RDR has opened up a bit about the Platty Daddy genetics and the mystery is no longer a big ambiguous mystery. Now everyone wants some of the offspring to make their own.
I simply want to know what are the visual differences between a HG Woma and a Woma, I like many others know that Kevin himself can decipher between the two.

I've heard it mentioned that they have a bit of a granite appearance to them.

Here's a link to a post made by Matt Lerer @ GHI Reptiles showing a pic of a HG Woma he had just hatched earlier this season. This pic appears to be pre first shed. I'm pretty sure there is a post shed pic floating around here too. If I can find it, I will post the link to it. There should be plenty of non hidden gene Woma pics around for you to compare with.

I'm not sure, but what you may be referring to is the HG Woma, Granite combos.

Here's a link to another one of Matt Lerer's posts showing some of the HG Womas he's hatched this season. They really look quite a bit different from the non hidden gene Womas.

Re: Platty Daddy?
To get back to the Platty Daddy question,
The Platty Daddy IS a homozygous mutation, just like a Lesser/Mojave Blue Eyed Leucistic is a homozygous mutation. The two genes making up their homozygous states are ever so slightly different. If you breed a Platty Daddy to a normal, you'll get Lessers and a "Normals" which aren't so normal, just like if you bred a Lesser/Mojave Blue Eyed Leucistic to a normal you'd get Lessers and Mojaves.
That "normal" carries the gene for that lightening effect. But the only way to know you have that gene is by tracking who the parents are, much like you have to know your 100% Het Albino actually had an Albino parent.
