Re: Caramel Albino Pricing
I don't think the Kinking is helping the price but I also don't think there is a very high demand for Caramels as compared to Albinos. Infact I don't understand why they are $500-$600, last year they were around $800 and I don't know a single breeder who didn't sell out of the albinos they were trying to sell.
I guess people just like shooting themselves in the foot.
Re: Caramel Albino Pricing
Thanks for all the feed back. Definitely, some good thoughts on the subject.

Re: Caramel Albino Pricing
I wasn't aware caramel albinos kinked, I thought only spiders did that.:please::please::please::please::please::please::please:
Re: Caramel Albino Pricing
Caramel kinking has been DRAMATICALLY overstated!!!! There are more than a few breeders that have been producing 20+ Caramels a year with NO KINKING. :O:gj: The way most posters talk about Caramels leads people to believe every 3rd one hatched is a "bent in half disaster" -- ABSURD. :colbert::taz:
From what I have been able to glean from talking with as many experienced Caramel breeders as possible -- which I am NOT -- yet, is that most of the kinking occured from line breeding one of the Caramel lines.
Ultramels are a different morph and will age differently and combine differently with other morphs. I like the Ultramel VERY MUCH :) -- but I like the Caramel projects I am working more. My second Caramel Mojave clutch just hatched this morning -- containing a Caramel and a Caramel Mojave -- both perfect. :) -- just as I expected. ;)
On a side note, I find it interesting that more often than not, negative spin about "insert your morph here" comes most passionately from those that have chosen not to work with said morph -- for whatever reasons.

I've been working on some caramel projects, but I have a feeling by the time I reach my goals within 2 or 3 years Caramels will be the same price as ghost. I know normal albinos have held there price around $500 each year, so why can't caramels hold their value?
I wanted to hears some feedback on this.
Caramels were not selling for 2k last year and I would bet they are not selling for $1300 now. I should be hatching a good amount in the next few weeks and I am not expecting to get close to $1300 for them. I am thinking the price that they are actually selling for this year is probably more like $900-$1000.

I don't have data before November 08, but I know the average price for hatchlings/juvis (less than 1 year old) on KS last November was $1800 for males and $1900 for females. Not trying to contradict you, but just checking it against my records.
Re: Caramel Albino Pricing
$500 2009 females at Daytona. :tears:

Please do some research before posting. Plus, I stated adults not hatchlings.

That may have been the list price, but the list price and the selling price can be two very different things. I am sure there were some out there sold at that price, but the majority were not.
